Tackling the T in TULIP (5 Pts of Calvinism) Total Depravity

Im gonna start every series with an excerpt from John Piper, and follow it up with insights from others and myself. Today we are tackling the T in the 5 pts of Calvinism otherwise known as T.U.L.I.P.

Total Depravity

When we speak of man's depravity we mean man's natural condition apart from any grace exerted by God to restrain or transform man.

There is no doubt that man could perform more evil acts toward his fellow man than he does. But if he is restrained from performing more evil acts by motives that are not owing to his glad submission to God, then even his "virtue" is evil in the sight of God.

Romans 14:23 says, "Whatever does not proceed from faith is sin." This is a radical indictment of all natural "virtue" that does not flow from a heart humbly relying on God's grace.

The terrible condition of man's heart will never be recognized by people who assess it only in relation to other men. Romans 14:23 makes plain that depravity is our condition in relation to God primarily, and only secondarily in relation to man. Unless we start here we will never grasp the totality of our natural depravity.

Man's depravity is total in at least four senses.

Our rebellion against God is total.

Apart from the grace of God there is no delight in the holiness of God, and there is no glad submission to the sovereign authority of God.

Of course totally depraved men can be very religious and very philanthropic. They can pray and give alms and fast, as Jesus said (Matthew 6:1-18). But their very religion is rebellion against the rights of their Creator, if it does not come from a childlike heart of trust in the free grace of God. Religion is one of the chief ways that man conceals his unwillingness to forsake self-reliance and bank all his hopes on the unmerited mercy of God (Luke 18:9-14; Colossians 2:20-23).

The totality of our rebellion is seen in Romans 3:9-10 and 18. "I have already charged that all men, both Jews and Greeks, are under the power of sin, as it is written: None is righteous, no not one; no one seeks for God....There is no fear of God before their eyes."

It is a myth that man in his natural state is genuinely seeking God. Men do seek God. But they do not seek him for who he is. They seek him in a pinch as one who might preserve them from death or enhance their worldly enjoyments. Apart from conversion, no one comes to the light of God.

Some do come to the light. But listen to what John 3:20-21 says about them. "Every one who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does what is true comes to the light, that it may be clearly seen that his deeds have been wrought in God."

Yes there are those who come to the light—namely those whose deeds are the work of God. "Wrought in God" means worked by God. Apart from this gracious work of God all men hate the light of God and will not come to him lest their evil be exposed—this is total rebellion. "No one seeks for God...There is no fear of God before their eyes!"

In his total rebellion everything man does is sin.

In Romans 14:23 Paul says, "Whatever is not from faith is sin." Therefore, if all men are in total rebellion, everything they do is the product of rebellion and cannot be an honor to God, but only part of their sinful rebellion. If a king teaches his subjects how to fight well and then those subjects rebel against their king and use the very skill he taught them to resist him, then even those skills become evil.

Thus man does many things which he can only do because he is created in the image of God and which in the service of God could be praised. But in the service of man's self-justifying rebellion, these very things are sinful.

In Romans 7:18 Paul says, "I know that no good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh." This is a radical confession of the truth that in our rebellion nothing we think or feel is good. It is all part of our rebellion. The fact that Paul qualifies his depravity with the words, "that is, in my flesh," shows that he is willing to affirm the good of anything that the Spirit of God produces in him (Romans 15:18). "Flesh" refers to man in his natural state apart from the work of God's Spirit. So what Paul is saying in Romans 7:18 is that apart from the work of God's Spirit all we think and feel and do is not good.

NOTE: We recognize that the word "good" has a broad range of meanings. We will have to use it in a restricted sense to refer to many actions of fallen people which in relation are in fact not good.

For example we will have to say that it is good that most unbelievers do not kill and that some unbelievers perform acts of benevolence. What we mean when we call such actions good is that they more or less conform to the external pattern of life that God has commanded in Scripture.

However, such outward conformity to the revealed will of God is not righteousness in relation to God. It is not done out of reliance on him or for his glory. He is not trusted for the resources, though he gives them all. Nor is his honor exalted, even though that's his will in all things (1 Corinthians 10:31). Therefore even these "good" acts are part of our rebellion and are not "good" in the sense that really counts in the end—in relation to God.

Man's inability to submit to God and do good is total.

Picking up on the term "flesh" above (man apart from the grace of God) we find Paul declaring it to be totally enslaved to rebellion. Romans 8:7-8 says, "For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, indeed it cannot; and those who are in the flesh cannot please God."

The "mind of the flesh" is the mind of man apart from the indwelling Spirit of God ("You are not in the flesh, you are in the Spirit, if the Spirit of God really dwells in you," Romans 8:9). So natural man has a mindset that does not and cannot submit to God. Man cannot reform himself.

Ephesians 2:1 says that we Christians were all once "dead in trespasses and sins." The point of deadness is that we were incapable of any life with God. Our hearts were like a stone toward God (Ephesians 4:18; Ezekiel 36:26). Our hearts were blind and incapable of seeing the glory of God in Christ (2 Corinthians 4:4-6). We were totally unable to reform ourselves.

Our rebellion is totally deserving of eternal punishment.

Ephesians 2:3 goes on to say that in our deadness we were "children of wrath." That is, we were under God's wrath because of the corruption of our hearts that made us as good as dead before God.

The reality of hell is God's clear indictment of the infiniteness of our guilt. If our corruption were not deserving of an eternal punishment God would be unjust to threaten us with a punishment so severe as eternal torment. But the Scriptures teach that God is just in condemning unbelievers to eternal hell (2 Thessalonians 1:6-9; Matthew 5:29f; 10:28; 13:49f; 18:8f; 25:46; Revelation 14:9-11; 20:10). Therefore, to the extent that hell is a total sentence of condemnation, to that extent must we think of ourselves as totally blameworthy apart from the saving grace of God.

In summary, total depravity means that our rebellion against God is total, everything we do in this rebellion is sin, our inability to submit to God or reform ourselves is total, and we are therefore totally deserving of eternal punishment.

It is hard to exaggerate the importance of admitting our condition to be this bad. If we think of ourselves as basically good or even less than totally at odds with God, our grasp of the work of God in redemption will be defective. But if we humble ourselves under this terrible truth of our total depravity, we will be in a position to see and appreciate the glory and wonder of the work of God discussed in the next four points.

Gonna start blogging on Doctrinal teachings, and Im starting with the 5 points of Calvinism!

I was talking to my wife and she suggested I do a series on Doctrine, and after praying and consideration, I am definitely gonna take her up on it. I will be starting the series next week, in this manner, every week I'm going be looking at essential and crucial Doctrinal and Theological subjects, and I will also ask involve friends that may be better studied and so forth. I will feature articles and studies. I will recommend and suggest sound readings, books, and commentators concerning the topic at hand. I already have the first 2 studies:

I want to thank my wife for this great idea, of course I won't abandon my usual postings of "crazy and heretical findings" but I will be more focused on informative teaching and truths!

I hope you enjoy, and become challenged by what you will hear, read and learn. That really is its intention, that our Lord will use such a thing as this to minister, teach and reveal.

Abortion, Biblical or not? Abortion in the Election!

I asked a friend of mine to write a little something concerning the issue of Abortion in this Presidential Election and I honestly have to say that I agree with 99% of what he wrote (the 1% is essentially semantics, LOL) but seriously please read this article. These are 2 major issues, and I would also include same sex marriage, that the Bible is so clear about, and as Christians we need to vote with our Bible and not our feelings!

In this years Election there is a strong theme being played and it is the subject of abortion. You are either Pro Life or Pro Choice. As a Christian we have to hold a standard in voting by the Bible, Gods Word. We must take a Biblical approach in voting. God said in John 10: 10a-" I have come to give Life". God gives life.

In this election there will be three seats up for grabs in the highest court. If a pro choice President gets elected he will put in place three judges that are pro-choice and will over turn Roe versus Wade. So this election is not about Iraq or oil, money but it is about this issue.

Barack Obama says he is a Christian yet he votes pro-choice. There was a vote on late term abortions and he voted babies must be put to death who live during a late term abortions. A late term abortion can be 6 to 8 months in a woman's pregnancy, and a full term pregnancy is 9 months. He was the only Senator to argue this subject about these babies must not live because they were aborted. He spinned his comments recently but these are the facts.

Here is the next issue at hand.

Many black CHURCHES (emphasis on Churches) are voting for Barack Obama. (Please don't perceive as a race issue for me, I'm just pointing out the facts.) They're supporting their culture and race versus issues at hand. He is a first term junior Senator with no experience. He is a well spoken person and gives very good speeches but the media is the tank for him. Nobody knows his issues or where he stands. He was voted the most liberal senator in the Senate. He has become a television icon and the CHURCH is getting sucked into his MTV fame.

Now back to issue people of color are voting in regards to there culture and not realizing the importance of this election in regards to being pro-choice.

As a Christian we must vote from a Biblical perspective. There are many well known gospel artist in the bag for Obama. Needless to say there voting by skin color and there not voting according to Gods Word. Is this where the shift happens where people are deceived. I am not a racist in anyway. I think the enemy uses color to divide us where color is Gods beauty. As well every vote counts and you must vote how God expects us to vote.

I am a minister and I will not tell people how to vote but if we vote for a candidate that's pro-choice we support and play a part in those babies being killed?

When I was 16 I got a girl pregnant and she had an abortion and till this day it haunts me.

I am not condemning you if you had an abortion in the past. But now that you live for God you must take this stand. I question peoples faith if they vote pro-choice.

-Do they know Jesus?

-Do they have a prayer life?

-Do they read or even know the Bible?

-What does God say regarding this?

Jesus embraced Children even when others refuse them to come near Him, He rebuked them and hugged the kids and warned them to become like Children in regards to there faith.

Right now you can get sucked in by the mainstream media or television or a music artist. But everyone will have to answer to God.

This vote is not about culture but about Life.

We do not realize our mortality unless we are startled into a recognition of it . A Clear Message by Spurgeon
If we want men to be truly converted, we must set before them the plan of salvation very clearly and distinctly. I meet with hundreds of persons who have had some kind of work upon their hearts, but they tell me that they walk in a mist. They have not quite understood it. They felt that they were on the rock, but they were not quite sure what the rock really was. It is a good thing that our zeal for God should be according to knowledge, that we know what we believe, and why we believe it; and know that we are saved, and how we are saved, and why we are saved; for if there be a mistake here, it may be fatal.

Concerning Todd Bentley and the Latest News concerning this False Revival!

Todd Bentley, leader of the counterfeit revival in Florida and elsewhere is stepping down. Here’s a news release from the “Fresh Fire Ministries” Board of Directors:

“We wish to acknowledge… that since our last statement from the Fresh Fire Board of Directors, we have discovered new information revealing that Todd Bentley has entered into an unhealthy relationship on an emotional level with a female member of his staff. In light of this new information and in consultation with his leaders and advisors, Todd Bentley has agreed to step down from his position on the Board of Directors and to refrain from all public ministry for a season to receive counsel in his personal life.”

John Piper, on his Desiring God blog writes this concerning the foolishness down in Lakeland, Florida:

Lee Grady, the editor of Charisma, one of the main charismatic magazines, has written a lament and critique of the Lakeland “revival” which is now in a tailspin over the leader’s announced separation from his wife. Grady’s summons to pray for the church and our nation is right, and among his commendable questions and observations are these:

• “Many of us would rather watch a noisy demonstration of miracles, signs and wonders than have a quiet Bible study. Yet we are faced today with the sad reality that our untempered zeal is a sign of immaturity. Our adolescent craving for the wild and crazy makes us do stupid things. It’s way past time for us to grow up.”
• “True revival will be accompanied by brokenness, humility, reverence and repentance—not the arrogance, showmanship and empty hype that often was on display in Lakeland.”
• “A prominent Pentecostal evangelist called me this week after Bentley’s news hit the fan. He said to me: ‘I’m now convinced that a large segment of the charismatic church will follow the anti-Christ when he shows up because they have no discernment.’ Ouch. Hopefully we’ll learn our lesson this time and apply the necessary caution when an imposter shows up.”

Charismatics will not be the only ones who follow the Antichrist when he rises. So will the mass of those who today in thousands of evangelical churches belittle the truth of biblical doctrine as God’s agent to set us free (John 8:32).

Discernment is not created in God’s people by brokenness, humility, reverence, and repentance. It is created by biblical truth and the application of truth by the power of the Holy Spirit to our hearts and minds. When that happens, then the brokenness, humility, reverence, and repentance will have the strong fiber of the full counsel of God in them. They will be profoundly Christian and not merely religious and emotional and psychological.

These are my words:

I will ask that we pray for The Bentleys, the reality is that it must be a tough time. I also pray for a sound conversion, and sound salvation. Though I dont agree with what went on in Lakeland, I will say that many were deceived, and still are. Pray for them too! I agree 100% with this blog posting above, though not my words, I echo these words. These are times of the FALSE PROPHETS, POOR THEOLOGY and GREAT DECEPTION. I CANNOT STRESS, and I REPEAT I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH the importance of sound Biblical Teaching, Theology and Preaching. We are called to rightly divide the Word of TRUTH!

C.H. Spurgeon and D.L. Moody on the day they met...

"D.L. Moody went to London to meet Spurgeon, whom he had admired from a distance and considered to be his professional mentor. However, when Spurgeon answered the door with a cigar in his mouth, Moody fell down the stairs in shock. "How could you, a man of God, smoke that?" protested the great American evangelist.

Spurgeon took the stogie out of his mouth and walked down the steps to where Moody was still standing in bewilderment. Putting his finger on Moody's rather rotund stomach, he smiled and said, "The same way you, a man of God, could be that fat!"


I am in no way in favor of smoking, but this really makes me look at myself for the things I overlook in my life and quick to point out in others. LOL though, this made me chuckle!

Encouragement to Preachers by Spurgeon
The sermon preached by Peter at Pentecost was the arrow of the Lord’s deliverance to three thousand, and there is no reason why the Lord should not cause one of ours to be the same. Three thousand cannot be converted if only a hundred are present to hear; but with this rest assembly, and thousands of smaller ones, within gunshot, why should not the slain of the Lord be many? Assuredly the divine Comforter can as readily bless three millions as three individuals.

How to Approach Your Pastor – Introduction

To my fellow brethren in Christ, who desire to see Jesus Christ be the only boast of this generation:

My name is Matt Johnson, and I have put the following thoughts together for you to help you relate to your pastor as you consider asking him to look into the teaching of The Way of the Master. As a pastor myself, I know how many requests we pastors get from our congregation. I know the tremendous pressure a pastor sometimes feels to minister effectively to his people. I also know the incredible joy he feels to see one of his own flock being on fire for God, and ready to go out and reach the world for Christ. Others have been drawn to deeper levels of discipleship than they have even known before. Ok, you’ve heard the teaching. You’ve been set on fire for God like never before. You see the urgency of getting the truth of this teaching to the church. You have found what has been missing in the modern Christian message. You desperately want to see your own church grab onto this truth, so you are feeling called to approach your pastor. Sound like you?

You are not alone. You are now part of what has become literally thousands of other believers around the world who have been awakened by the Biblical teaching of Hell’s Best Kept Secret. God is using this teaching in a mighty way, as He has done for more than 2000 years, and you are a tool in His hand by which He desires to see the nations come to true, Biblical repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

To be willing and obedient to what God is calling you to do is one thing, but to actually do it is another. If you are reading this, you are seriously considering what the next step should be. That is the purpose of this letter; to guide you in taking this teaching to those who can most effectively get it to the most people possible. And that would begin with your pastor. Thank you for your willingness to speak your heart to him. God will honor your obedience. Following are our recommendations as to how you can approach your pastor with this teaching.

• To begin with, you should hold your pastor in high honor. The Bible says, “Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine." 1 Timothy 5:17. So you should not only give honor to him, you should give double honor. In other words, respect your pastor very highly. His work is very important to God, and he should be given the utmost respect as you consider bringing this to his attention.

One note of caution here. We encourage you to hold him in high honor before you take the teaching to him. You may feel that he is a fine pastor, and for you, this is not a problem. But some may be taking this to a pastor for whom you have little respect, or with whom you disagree. If this is the case, now would not be an appropriate time to bring this before him. God has placed him in spiritual authority over you, and the Scripture says to esteem him highly in love, without regard to your opinion of him or of his ministry: For the Scripture says, "And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves." 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13. To esteem your pastor is the right thing to do, and will prevent any root of bitterness or preconceived ideas of rejection from affecting your attitude and presentation. Honor him, and you will be starting out on the right foot.

• You should also pray for your pastor. Pray for him like nobody’s business! Throughout Scripture, we are encouraged and commanded to pray for those in authority over us, and especially our pastors. And let me encourage you to pray not only for the time when you meet with him, but pray that God would bless him and his family, that God’s richest mercies would be found near to him, and that the anointing of God would fall upon his ministry and on his study and preaching. Your prayers for him should be heartfelt, deep, and urgent prayers. Pray especially for his spiritual protection. Satan hates this teaching, and nothing would please him more than to get this teaching in your pastor’s hands and then for him to stumble into immorality, and blemish both the name of Christ and the truth of the teaching.

Lift him up in prayer often, and fervently. And you should be doing this well before any meeting with him. Through prayer, you not only prepare his heart to receive you, but you are also preparing your heart to receive him and his words. Read this exhortation from Charles Spurgeon on prayer, and then get to it!

“Stones are not broken, except by an earnest use of the hammer; and the stonebreaker usually goes down on his knees. Use the hammer of diligence, and let the knee of prayer be exercised, too, and there is not a stony doctrine in Revelation which is useful for you to understand, which will not fly into shivers under the exercise of prayer and faith. . . . You may force your way through anything with the leverage of prayers. Thoughts and reasonings may be like the steel wedges which may open a way into truth; but prayer is the lever, the price which forces open the iron chest of sacred mystery, that we may get the treasure that is hidden therein for those who can force their way to reach it. The kingdom of heaven still suffereth violence, and the violent taketh it by force. Take care that ye work away with the mighty implement of prayer, and nothing can stand against you.”

• Next, be prepared for this teaching to not be received immediately with joy and thanksgiving by him. Any pastor who is worth his salt will not quickly jump into a teaching without thoroughly looking into it and being as the Bereans of Acts 17, who “searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so” (Acts 17:11). Remember, for most pastors, this teaching is quite a radical departure from the modern message. But truth is truth, whether it falls in line with a modern message or not. If he will be willing to search the Scriptures, he will soon see the truth and the great implications of the teaching.

It is also important to note that pastors are often extremely busy, and inundated with all sorts of materials, curriculum, and there’s always the next new Bible study, Church-wide campaign, and evangelism method to look at. Remember that if he has been in ministry for very long, he has likely seen the various evangelism programs come and go. He may think The Way of the Master as just another one of those “programs” that will pass like the last fad in Christian life. Of course, The Way of the Master is not an evangelism program, but a Biblical concept, that will not go away. In fact, it’s not new at all, but has been used in the Church for the past 2000 years or so, with the exception of the last century. So be patient with him.

Here’s a few practical suggestions for you as you prepare for the meeting:

• Don’t overload him with material. We recommend that you give him the book, “The Way of the Master”, which contains “Hell’s Best Kept Secret” in audio CD format included in the back cover. You may also want to get a copy of “True and False Conversions” to him as well. These two teachings tend to grip pastors the most. “Hell’s Best Kept Secret will give him the heart of the Biblical teaching of Law before grace, and “True and False Conversions” will further help him to understand how the lack of the use of the Law in evangelism is the major root cause of the current “fall away rate” in modern Christianity.

• We also recommend that you give him a written copy of your testimony of how this teaching has impacted your life. It is important to write it down because it may be weeks or even months before he looks into it. A personal, written letter from you to him will remind him of how important this is to you, and how sincerely you desire his approval. Also, at the end of this letter are some “Time Tested Quotes” from great men of the faith that you can copy and attach to the end of your testimony letter.

• Don’t try to get any firm commitment in your first meeting. Try to get him to simply commit to look into it. Ask him to commit to listen to the CDs and read your testimony. If he is intrigued, then he will likely read the book as well. It’s important that you tell him that you need to know his thoughts on the teaching.

• After the meeting, don’t bug him or pressure him. From time to time, just remind him that you are praying for him, not only as he looks into the teaching, but that you are praying that God would richly bless him, his family, and his ministry.

After the meeting, what do you do if he doesn’t agree with the teaching, or thinks that it just doesn’t fit with the current direction of the church? Or what if he is completely satisfied with the current evangelism methods and programs of the church? Ask him if he would allow you to teach the material in a small Bible study group. Believe us, if you do that, people will get on fire. And a pastor’s greatest dream is to see his people on fire for God and fervent in evangelism. Nothing pleases him more than to see a saint out in the harvest field! This may take time, but keep pressing on. It’s worth it!

Judas Was a Preacher by Spurgeon!
Judas was a preacher; nay, he was a foremost preacher, “he obtained part of this ministry,” said the Apostle Peter. He was not simply one of the seventy; he had been selected by the Lord himself as one of the twelve, an honorable member of the college of the apostles. Doubtless he had preached the gospel so that many had been gladdened by his voice, and miraculous powers had been vouchsafed to him, so that at his word the sick had been healed, deaf ears had been opened; and the blind had been made to see; nay, there is no doubt that he who could not keep the devil out of himself, had cast devils out of others. Yet how are you fallen from Heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! He that was as a prophet in the midst of the people, and spake with the tongue of the learned, whose word and wonders proved that he had been with Jesus and had learned of him — he betrays his Master. A Plea to the Unsaved by Spurgeon
There are some of you standing in these aisles and sitting in these pews, who I feel in my soul will never have another invitation, and if this be rejected to-day, I feel a solemn motion in my soul--I think it is of the Holy Ghost--that you will never hear another faithful sermon, but you shall go down to Hell impenitent, unsaved, except you trust in Jesus now. I speak not as a man, but I speak as God’s ambassador to your souls, and I command you, in God’s name, trust Jesus, trust now. At your peril reject the voice that speaks from Heaven, for “he that believeth not shall be damned.” How shall you escape if you neglect so great salvation. When it comes right home to you, when it thrusts itself in your way, oh, if you will neglect it how can you escape? With tears I would invite you, and, if I could, would compel you to come in. Why will you not? So, I kinda stopped looking into this "So Called Revival" however, every so often I youtube stuff and find new unamazing things concerning this heresy, I caught this baptism service going on in Lakeland, and I was appalled, and like the Scriptures insinuate Paul would also be appalled this Gospel is a disgrace to him!!

Maybe are and wil be deceived, the Word backs it up! I have yet to find someone that can really make me think twice concerning this garbage, no Scriptural backing, no Biblical credibility what so ever!

The Reason Sinners Live by Spurgeon
Read the Ten Commandments, and pause at each one, and confess that you have broken it either in thought, or word, or deed. Remember that by a glance we may commit adultery, by a thought we may be guilty of murder, by a desire we may steal. Sin is any want of conformity to perfect holiness, and that want of conformity is justly chargeable upon every one of us. Yet the Lord does not, under the gospel dispensation, deal with us according to Law. He does not now sit on the throne of judgment, but He looks down upon us from the throne of grace. Not the iron rod, but the silver scepter, is held over us. The long-suffering of God rules the age, and Jesus the Mediator is the gracious Lord-lieutenant of the dispensation. Instead of destroying offending man from off the face of the earth, the Lord comes near to us in loving condescension, and pleads with us by His Spirit, saying, “You have sinned, but my Son has died. In him I am prepared to deal with you in a way of pure mercy and unmingled grace.”

O sinner, the fact that you are alive proves that God is not dealing with you according to strict justice, but in patient forbearance; every moment you live is another instance of omnipotent long-suffering. It is the sacrifice of Christ which arrests the axe of justice, which else must execute you. The barren tree is spared because the great Dresser of the vineyard, who bled on Calvary, intercedes and cries, “Let it alone this year also.” O my hearer, it is through the shedding of the blood and the mediatorial reign of the Lord Jesus that you are at this moment on praying ground and pleading terms with God! Apart from the blood of atonement you would now be past hope, shut up for ever in the place of doom. But see how the great Father bears with you! He stands prepared to hear your prayer, to accept your confession of sin, to honor your faith, and to save you from your sin through the sacrifice of his dear Son.

Its been a minute, couple of things...

First and foremost, I haven't posted in a couple of weeks, I have been really busy, we closed on the condo, I did renovations to the apartment, painted, converted the dining room into a bedroom, and many other things. I want to thank God for allowing us a smooth transition into the condo we took a mortgage on, Praise God! We are truly blessed to have this opportunity, my kids and wife are very happy to be moved into the new place!

Let me beseech you to believe that it is needful as well as justifiable that you should feel compassion for the sons of men. You all desire to glorify Christ by becoming soul-winners—I hope you do—and be it remembered that, other things being equal, he is the fittest in God's hand to win souls who pities souls most. I believe he preaches best who loves best, and in the Sunday-school and in private life each soul-seeker shall have the blessing very much in proportion to his yearning for it. Paul becomes a savior of many because his heart's desire and prayer to God is that they may be saved. If you can live without souls being converted, you shall live without their being converted; but if your soul breaks for the longing that it has towards Christ's glory and the conversion of the ungodly, if like her of old you say, "Give me children, or I die," your insatiable hunger shall be satisfied, the craving of your spirit shall be gratified. Oh! I would to God there should come upon us a divine hunger which cannot stay itself except men yield themselves to Jesus; an intense, earnest, longing, panting desire that men should submit themselves to the gospel of Jesus. This will teach you better than the best college training how to deal with human hearts. This will give the stammering tongue the ready word; the hot heart shall burn the cords which held fast the tongue. You shall become wise to win souls, even though you never exhibit the brilliance of eloquence or the force of logic.

To Draw Near to God

To draw near to God, what does this mean? To draw near to God, brethren and sisters, implies first that we are reconciled to Him by the death of His Son. For a man to attempt to draw near to God while God is angry with him, would be a species of insanity. As well might the moth draw near to the candle, or the stubble approach the flame. God is “a consuming fire,” and while our hearts are evil there can nothing come of an approach to God but destruction. Before any one of us can draw near to God in acceptable prayer and praise, we must wash in the fountain that Christ has filled from His dying veins. Does thou believe in the atonement, my hearer? Believing in it hast thou also received it? Do you rest your soul’s salvation upon the accomplished mediatorial work of Jesus Christ? If not, you are such an enemy to God that you may by no means even think yourself capable of drawing near to Him. Your back is towards Him, and the faster you walk the further from God will you journey, and your end will assuredly be to hear from Him the word “Depart.” You have been departing all your life, you shall go on departing throughout eternity; departing from the God whom you have and despised, and forgotten. Before, then, we can draw near to God, we must have come with repentance and faith to the cross, and have looked up to Him who bled thereon, and we must have accepted Him as our salvation. I ask you whether you can accompany me in the first step? Have you laid hold on eternal life in Christ Jesus?

On Saturday, 3/29/2008, Barack Obama said at an event in Pennsylvania,

“When it comes specifically to HIV/AIDS, the most important prevention is education, which should include — which should include abstinence education and teaching the children - teaching children, you know, that sex is not something casual. But it should also include - it should also include other, you know, information about contraception because, look, I’ve got two daughters, 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby…”

God forbid his daughters might take responsibility for their “mistake”. Good grief! If any young women were ever positioned in life to deal with an unplanned pregnancy, surely the Obama girls will be. Daughters of a wealthy, intact and loving family, there would be no reason for these girls to acquire an abortion other than convenience. Of course, it would not be difficult to conceive a young woman having an abortion when her father refers to the contents of her pregnant womb as some kind of cruel punishment or disease.

This is not Pro-Choice. This is Pro-Abortion.

I always thought Children were a blessing regardless of the circumstance of how they were conceived, God could turn anything around!!

Sad sad world we live in!

He that pleads for Christ should himself be moved with the prospect of the Judgment Day. When I come in at yonder door at the back of the pulpit, and the sight of that vast crowd bursts upon me, I frequently feel appalled. Think of these thousands of immortal souls gazing through the windows of those wistful eyes, and I am to preach to them all, and be responsible for their blood if I be not faithful to them. I tell you, it makes me feel ready to start back. But then fear is not alone. I am borne up by the hope and belief that God intends to bless these people through the Word which He will enable me to deliver. I believe that everybody in that throng is sent there by God for some purpose, and that I am sent to effect that purpose.

I'm actually excited about this movie!

In response to a comment in a previous posting (not found in this postings comments section), I am posting this article in which I found to be in line with Biblical proportions concerning Revival. Enjoy, be challenged!


IS THIS REVIVAL?

That is why it behooves us to exercise care and to be discerning in these matters. Following are a number of cautions that bear consideration in light of the current explosion of interest in revival.

- Not everything that is called "revival" is revival. Calling a movement a "revival" does not make it a revival. If it does not bear the marks of biblical revival, we ought to question whether it really is a revival. Corporate revival, in the biblical and historical sense, is a precious term, that ought to be re-served for those "divine moments" when there is a supernatural outpouring of God's Spirit upon His people that cannot be explained in any human terms. If we are too quick to ascribe the term "revival" to various religious happenings or movements, the word will soon lose its meaning, and we will cease to long and seek God for that which truly is revival.

- The fact that a lot of people are talking about and promoting "revival" doesn't necessarily mean that we are, therefore, in the midst of revival. Numerous, respected Christian leaders are declaring that we are in the midst of or on the threshold of a great spiritual awakening. We must be careful about accepting the assessment of men, even those who may be recognized as "authorities" on revival, and must continually evaluate what is taking place through the grid of the Word of God. One of the curses of our age, according to A.W. Tozer, is the assumption that because we know about something, therefore we have it, when, in fact, nothing may be further from the truth.

- Large crowds, intense enthusiasm, stirred emotions, energetic activity, and "signs and wonders" are not necessarily evidence of revival. Nor can they uniformly be attributed to God at work among His people. All these things can be imitated by the world, or even counterfeited by false religions, even as Pharoah's magicians were able to counterfeit the miracles that God did through Moses. Satan is a master deceiver and one of his most effective strategies is to stir up people's passions with programs that substitute noise, applause, activity, and human fervor for the presence of God. Evangelicalism's fascination with the sensational is not new to the 20th century. Back in Jesus' day, people tended to be enamored of the spectacular, the grandiose. "Show us a sign," the Pharisees demanded of Jesus. They wanted to be impressed, to have their senses titillated. Jesus responded by reminding them that "an evil and adulterous generation
seeketh after a sign" (Matt. 12:39).
Today it is relatively easy to pack an auditorium with cheering, chanting "spiritual enthusiasts," if the event has been especially well promoted and the program consists of hyped-up music and big-name speakers who are known for their ability to make people laugh and cry. People will pay large fees and stand in long lines to be entertained or to have an experience that makes them feel good about God and themselves. But the real test is what happens to those crowds when the message of the cross and repentance is proclaimed. What happens when they are asked to take out their Bibles and digest the meat of solid, doctrinal teaching? Unfortunately, as was the case in Jesus' day, it is at this point that the multitudes tend to thin out, and we are left with those who are serious about being disciples of Christ.

- Genuine revival will not be a bandwagon. So-called "revival" is a popular movement in the church today. Everybody seems eager to join in. But genuine revival will not be popular with everyone. It may have a polarizing effect. It will divide between those who are walking after the flesh and those who are walking in the Spirit, between those who want to build their own kingdom and those who want to build the Kingdom of God, between those who are attached to their own ideas and those who are committed to the Word of God.
In the current climate, it is possible to promote "revival" without risking anything--our image, our reputation, our position within the denomination or the evangelical world, our sophistication, our schedule, our convenience, or the respect of others. But when God pours out His Spirit in genuine revival, the participants and leaders of the revival may find themselves losing popularity contests, even in the church. They may be misunderstood, ridiculed, scorned, ignored, or dismissed as fanatics. Yet, though it cost them everything, they must be prepared to speak the truth to the people of God and to our world.

- We must guard against "revival" becoming just another popular program or emphasis in the church. In its quest for results and success, the church tends to gravitate to trends and to jump from one new thrust to the next. Much like the world, we have an obsession with novelty. In the 70s, we were into soulwinning; in the 80s, we got into discipleship, small groups, and church growth; the 90s brought us cell churches and seeker-sensitive services. Now, we're into revival.
The church of Jesus Christ does not need one more novel idea or approach. "The answer" is not a program or an effort. What we need is the presence and power of God. And that cannot be acquired by launching another emphasis; we must seek His face.

- Revival is not an end in itself. That mind set ultimately leads to self-absorption, which is a form of idolatry. Revival in the church is merely a means by which God is glorified in His people and His kingdom advanced in our world.
Our mission is not to seek revival, but to seek the Lord. When we set ourselves to seek His face, we likely will experience the by-product of revival.

- There is nothing we can do to coerce or manipulate God to send revival. All our prayers, our fasting, our gatherings, our efforts to promote revival are no guarantee that God will indeed be pleased to send revival. While it is unlikely that God will revive a people who have not earnestly sought Him, revival remains a sovereign, independent work of God.

- Corporate revival is no substitute for personal revival. Further, corporate confession is no substitute for personal confession. And corporate prayer is no substitute for private prayer.
We rejoice in the many gatherings that are taking place for the purpose of repentance and prayer for revival. But it is possible to participate in many such events without ever experiencing personal revival, confessing our own sins, or having a personal prayer life.
It is possible to focus earnestly on the need for corporate revival in "the church" and in our nation, while overlooking the need for personal revival right where we live--in our own lives and homes. It is easy to talk about "the church" needing revival. But the church is made up of individuals. What about my life? Do I need revival? Does my family need revival? If we get excited about attending conferences and services where God is moving in a significant way, while failing to deal with the issues of pride, selfishness, bitterness, greed or immorality that are affecting our own homes, we have missed the point of revival. Could we be so preoccupied with confessing the sins of others that we are overlooking our personal sins that need to be confessed?
Of what use is racial reconciliation or unity between denominations, if we have contention, strife, and unresolved conflicts in our own homes or churches?

- There are no shortcuts to revival. We may be so eager to experience the fruit of revival that we bypass God's conditions for revival: humility, repentance, contrition, prayer, and obedience. There is no such thing as a "painless Pentecost." Weeping comes before joy. The cross comes before the resurrection. Death comes before life. Brokenness comes before wholeness. As Sammy Tippit reminds us, "When God sends revival, there will be a lot less laughter and a lot more weeping." We cannot arrive at the desired result of revival if we are unwilling to walk through the process that God requires.
In many ways, evangelicalism today has embraced the quick-fix mind set of the world. We are so bent on eliminating our problems that we gravitate to promises of immediate relief and deliverance. The "name it and claim it" theology has thrived in such a climate. Christians with problems that are the fruit of years of fleshly choices want someone to wave his hand over them or bind a demon of lust, rather than walking through the difficult, less dramatic process of repenting and renewing their minds with the Word of God. Quick fixes may provide temporary relief. But they will not provide the lasting transformation of heart and life that we really need, both person-ally and corporately.

- God is unlikely to send revival to those whose real heart motive is to build or enhance their own reputations or ministries or to reap blessing for themselves. We must ask ourselves, why do we want to see God send revival? Revival is not primarily a way to get rid of our problems, to make our lives easier, to increase giving, to get people to respond, or to increase the fruit of our ministries. The ultimate purpose of revival is for the glory of God--that His name might be
known and reverenced in our world, that His Kingdom would rule and reign in the hearts of men, and that His will might be done on earth as it is in heaven.
A. J. Gordon reminds us, "Not for ourselves, and that we may enjoy the holy luxury of communion with God, are we to seek for the times of refreshing. If so, doubtless we shall fail of them, for even spiritual blessings we may ask and receive not, if we only ask that we may consume them upon ourselves."

- The fact that we agree about the need for repentance in the church does not mean that we have, in fact, repented. Talking about repentance is far easier than actually repenting. We may, in fact, be calling others to repentance, while failing to repent of our own sinful attitudes, values, habits, or actions. Repentance means choosing to utterly forsake our sin and to walk in absolute obedience and holiness.
In recent years, the Christian world has witnessed occasions of extended times of public confession of sin. There is certainly a scriptural basis for such confession. However, in the midst of such times, there is a danger of people "venting" instead of truly "repenting." Confession, whether public or private, is not for the purpose of providing an emotional catharsis for the sinner. And the sinner's guilt will not be assuaged if, in his confessing, he stops short of full repentance. The evidence of genuine repentance is not merely that an individual has confessed his sin, but that his life has been transformed and he is now walking in the light.

- There is no revival where there is not deep brokenness and contrition over the seriousness of our sin against a holy God. God said to Ezekiel, "Is it a light thing [a trivial matter--NIV] to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here?" (Ezek. 8:17). Brokenness implies mourning and grieving over our sin and hating everything that does not please God. All of us have, at times, been sorry about the consequences of our sin (e.g., the mess we're in, the problems and conflicts we are experiencing in our relationships). But when is the last time we grieved over the nature of our sin, over our rebellion against a holy, loving God? Do we realize the depth and extent of our personal and corporate sin against God? Do we realize how far we have strayed from the Word and the ways of God?

- Not all prayers and prayer meetings bring us closer to experiencing revival. If we are praying for revival, while failing to deal with those things in our hearts, lives, and relationships that are standing between us and the Lord, then we are wasting our breath. Tozer suggested that we will experience revival when we stop using prayer as a substitute for obedience. Charles Finney, who understood the importance and power of prayer, once said that he would not go across the street to attend an all-night prayer meeting if those gathered were not serious about obeying God. All the prayer meetings in the world cannot take the place of obedience.


13 Letters Curriculum Coming in the Fall!

I been awaiting this curriculum since the release of the Project "13 Letters". Basically its a curriculum that follows the 13 Letters Paul wrote in the New Testament, this curriculum is great for the hood, inner city, and desperately necessary for the youth of this time and age we are currently dwelling in!
The WORD is self sufficient, the person who places his trust in Christ needs to solely rely in the power of the transforming WORD, anything and everything the LORD wants to communicate to us will be found in His WORD! Don't get caught up with the trends of the modern day church who has neglected the simple message of the Gospel for a emotional, sensory driven, mystical and self fulfilling experience thats so called attributed to God. My response to those is: Prove it and support your views through Scripture, I've yet to meet someone that can actually make me think twice. The SCRIPTURES are SELF SUFFICIENT, Sola Scriptura! WON!

The Love of God by Spurgeon
Whatever I believe, or do not believe, the command to love my neighbor as myself still retains its claim upon me, and God forbid that any views or opinions should so contract my soul, and harden my heart as to make me forget this law of love! The love of God is first, but this by no means lessens the obligation of love to man; in fact, the first command includes the second. We are to seek our neighbor’s conversion because we love him.
